We are excited to try one from Pinhook this evening.
Bourbon War from the Vertical Series. This one is from the 2019 release and is aged 4 years before being bottled at 98 proof.
The whiskey in each release is the best expression of their barrels at that moment in time, and they blend and proof releases to be as unique as the horse on the label.
The Vertical Series is a one-time opportunity to follow a group of barrels, all filled within months of each other as they age. So neat! #nopunintended
Every year over the next 9 years, Pinhook will select 150 bourbon barrels and 50 rye barrels to be blended and proofed creating the most balanced expression for the vintage.
We are excited to be on this journey and see where this goes over the years. Well I guess this means we are officially #pinhooked now.
On a side note, we were a little late finding this one and had trouble finding it in our local stores. However, we were able to order a couple of bottles and have them delivered right to our door. You can order directly from the Pinhook website. Simple, quick and effective! Who knew bourbon hunting could be this easy!
Don’t sleep on this one, folks! Be sure to order a bottle—or three. Cheers! 🥃

Each year Pinhook releases a new vintage of bourbons and ryes. Every expression is the best representation of our barrels at that moment in time and dedicated to a promising young thoroughbred. Through a combination of careful barrel selection, blending in small batches, and meticulous proofing, each Pinhook vintage has a character as unique as the horse on the label.
In 2010, with nothing but a name, a blending philosophy, and twenty barrels of bourbon purchased from Midwest Grain Products of Indiana (MGPI), Pinhook’s founders launched what has become a breakaway success story in the ultra-competitive field of craft whiskey. Pinhook began releasing small batches in 2014, and when Castle & Key embarked on its celebrated restoration of the abandoned Colonel E.H. Taylor distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, Pinhook came on board. All Pinhook barrels are now aged, blended and bottled at Castle & Key, and since 2017 Pinhook has been distilling proprietary mashbills of bourbon and rye there as well.

Pinhook’s founders set out to make an excellent yet accessible whiskey. To that end, the flagship bourbon and rye are meant to retail at less than $40 and are priced wholesale to be excellent candidates for an Old Fashioned, Manhattan, or Julep as well as straight pours. Pinhook has been featured in the New York Times, Food + Wine, and Departures, and won a Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2019 for its high proof bourbon and a Double Gold in 2020 for its Rye’d On Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey.
